Dewsbury-Hall strike enough for 10-men Everton to beat lethargic Man United after bizarre red card

Everton survived a 75-minute long display with 10 men after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s wonder goal was enough to bring Everton only their 2^nd ever Premier League win at Old Trafford in a dismal 1 year anniversary for United manager Ruben Amorim.

The 10-men stood strong after one of the strangest incidents in recent Premier League memory saw Idrissa Gana Gueye sent off after a dispute with teammate Michael Keane over a poor pass was nearly punished by Bruno Fernandes.

The Senegalese international slapped the English defender with the manager Tony Harrington sending him off on the spot for violent conduct.

Everton manager David Moyes was surprised by the incident and if anything liked his players fighting one another.

“Maybe the referee could have thought more about the red card.

“But you know, I quite like my players fighting each other and getting annoyed with each other. That's part of it. You want that resilience”, said the Scotsman.

Everton had started the game stronger than United, and even after the dismissal were largely on top. The decisive moment of the game came in the 29^th minute.

A great piece of play saw Dewsbury-Hall get the ball from James Garner, and after the ball ricocheted off Yoro, the midfielder looked up and curled a beautiful shot into the top corner of Senne Lammens net.

From then on, the game plan for Everton was simple: defend, and defend they did. United had plenty of the ball, over 65% and 23 shots in the time after the goal but never looked like scoring.

Their best chance came late in the second half when Joshua Zirkzee, filling in for the injured pair of Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha, headed a Luke Shaw cross goalwards, but a brilliant stop from Jordan Pickford kept him out.

The result ends Man United’s impressive 5-game unbeaten streak, and a run of 4 home game victories on the trot, as Amorim goes back to the drawing board and slams his players for not being better.

“I felt we were not there with the intensity. They deserved the win.

“(A step back) yes. Especially in the way we played the game. Forget the result (being bad), I was more concerned by the feeling I had during the game”, said the Portuguese manager.

David Moyes was delighted with his teams performance and reaction to being a man behind as the Scottish manager finally wins at Old Trafford as the opposition manager for the first time in 18 attempts.

"Incredibly proud of the players and the supporters here today because we've had so many encounters here where we've not got a result.

"We've come close but not been able to get over the line, we've got over the line with 10-men, which is the hardest way to get a result here”, said the Toffees manager.

The result leapfrogs Everton into 11^th, above rivals Liverpool and level with Man United only on goals scored.
